The discovery of a Tyrannosaurus rex fossil named Sue by Black Hills Institute staff resulted in a civil custody battle and a criminal investigation. Most of the charges in the costly criminal trial resulted in acquittals, but Peter Larson was sent to prison on two felonies. Both trials are described in detail.
