1995 marks the 50th anniversary of the United Nations

Article Abstract:

The history and goals of the United Nations is given along with some of its organizational problems. Since 1951, stamps have regularly been issued by the UN. The first issue is described. Some stamps highlight particular agencies such as UNICEF. Member nations also issue commemorative UN stamps.

USS Babbitt saw action in World War II

Article Abstract:

The warship, which was commissioned and launched in 1918, was operated as a convoy escort near Iceland among other assignments during World War II. There were 16 different postmarks used on the ship. Its post office was finally closed January 25, 1946.
