The film director Lasse Hallstrom, whose films often deal with emotionally charged subjects, has created realistic, unsentimental portraits of people struggling through life altering experiences. 'Chocolate' in the year 2000, which is a follow-up to The Cider House Rules, won the prize for the best international filmmaker at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
