Article Abstract:

Trinidadian-born dancer and choreographer Pearl Primus died on Oct. 29, 1994 at her home in New Rochelle, NY. Her dances were influenced by African and West Indian music, spiritual and related sources concerning the effects of slavery. She had several teaching stints and also received a doctorate in anthropology in 1978.

Lubovitch, Lar

Article Abstract:

Choreographer Lar Lubovitch is well known for his original works. He directs several US and foreign dance companies and has his own dance troupe. Born in 1943 in Chicago, IL, he began choreographing at an early age. He was a dance scholar at the Juilliard School in New York City.
