Richard J. Davidson, neuroscientist, has studied the brain activity of individuals suffering from depression, anxiety or phobias. He discovered that the left frontal cortex is associated with feelings of good will and happiness, and it is more active in the brains of people who are generally optimistic, cheerful and enthusiastic than in those of individuals who are usually pessimistic.
