Boxer Antonio Deon Tarver surmounted difficulties ranging from a fatherless childhood to the desperation of drug addition to becoming an Olympic medallist in 1996 and a light heavyweight champion seven years later. In 1996, he became the only amateur boxer to win not only the US National Championships but also the Pam-Am Games and the world championship in a single year.
