Andrew H. Card Jr., White House chief of staff who has a low key personality, holds one of the White House's most powerful positions and has also had a successful career in the private sector as president and chief executive officer of the American Automobile Manufacturer's Association (AAMA) and then as vice president for government relations at General Motors (GM). He was also nominated for the Cabinet level position of secretary of transportation during George H. W. Bush's presidency.
