Development process of nuclear power industry in a developing country: Korean experience and implications

Article Abstract:

The evolution of South Korea's nuclear energy program is examined to determine what factors may have contributed to the country's successful localization of nuclear power technology. Analysis reveals that human resources development, foreign technical assistance, market conditions and cultural factors helped ensure South Korea's transformation from an operator of turnkey nuclear reactors to a country capable of improving and redesigning nuclear technologies. The implications for other developing countries are discussed in relation to various technology transfer issues.

Analysis of partnership sourcing in Northern Ireland reveals that information technology can facilitate partnership sourcing, improve communication between partners and restructure supply chains. Information technology developments like the Internet, electronic commerce and electronic data interchange is seen enabling Northern Ireland companies to become more globally competitive by facilitating the search for partners, communication between partners and supply chain reorganization through faster computing speeds and faster analyses of solutions.
