Zollinger-Ellison syndrome

Article Abstract:

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome results when small tumors (gastrinoma) develop in the pancreas and duodenum, producing high levels of gastrin in the blood, and its symptoms include burning sensation in the abdomen, vomiting, weakness and weight loss. The main treatment for this syndrome is proton pump inhibitors, which reduce the amount of acid produced in the stomach and promote the healing of ulcers, and also reduce diarrhoea.

Furosemide inhibits reabsorption from the ascending loop of Henle in the renal tubule. The side-effects, cautions, administration methods, nursing considerations and contradictions concerning furosemide are discussed.
