Where'er you work: workplace directive

Article Abstract:

The UK Health and Safety Commission has drawn up draft regulations on safety and welfare requirements at the workplace. The proposals are aimed to fit in with the EC workplace directive to be enforced in 1992, and they are currently under review by interior designers, employers and architects. The revised regulations will encompass most workplaces, as opposed to the original inclusion of only shops, offices and factories. New and modified workplaces will have to comply to the changes from Jan 1, 1993, while existing workplaces have until Jan 1, 1996. Construction regs update

Article Abstract:

The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and the Approved Code of practice come into force in the UK on Jan 1 1992. They will implement the European Community requirements on temporary or mobile construction sites. Clients, planning supervisors, designers and principal contractors will be resonsible for efficient health and safety management. Clients will have to appoint a planning supervisor and a principal contractor to manage a health and safety stategy during the design and constuction phases and designers will have to make sure that their designs are risk-free for workmen.
