Use of inhaled corticosteroids and the risk of cataracts
Article Abstract:
Using inhaled corticosteroids may increase the risk of cataract. Researchers examined the eyes of 3,313 patients and noted the presence of cataracts. A total of 370 patients had a history of inhaled corticosteroid use, 164 at the time of the study and 206 in the past. These patients had a greater risk of specific types of cataract, including nuclear cataracts and posterior subcapsular cataracts. However, the incidence of cortical cataracts was not increased by inhaled corticosteroid use. Those with the highest lifetime dose of corticosteroids had the highest risk of cataract.

Hypertensive retinopathy
Article Abstract:
Hypertensive retinopathy is a condition characterized by a spectrum of retinal vascular signs in people with elevated blood pressure. On the basis of the Joint National Committee criteria, the presence of retinopathy may be an indication for initiating antihypertensive treatment, even in people with stage 1 hypertension who have no other evidence of target-organ damage.
