Outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome -- worldwide, 2003

Article Abstract:

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention began investigating the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in Asia in February, 2003. The first cases occurred in Guangdong province in southern China, but as of March 19, 2003, cases have been reported in Hong Kong, Vietnam, Singapore, Taiwan, and Canada. Symptoms include fever, cough, muscle pain, shortness of breath, and signs of pneumonia on a chest X-ray.

Article Abstract:

A total of 1,323 cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) have been reported from 14 provinces and countries as of March 26, 2003 and 49 patients have died. Cases are located primarily in the Guangdong province of China, Hong Kong, and Vietnam. There have been 51 cases in the US.

Update: Outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome -- worldwide, 2003

Article Abstract:

A total of 2,223 cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) has been reported from 16 countries as of April 2, 2003. Seventy-eight people have died from SARS. As of April 2, 2003, 100 cases of SARS have been reported in the US, 94 of whom had traveled to Asia.
