Understanding the blood group system and blood transfusions

Article Abstract:

The nurses should be aware of the ABO group system and blood components and have to ensure that the blood is correctly sampled, handled, stored, checked and administered. The awareness of possible adverse events during or after transfusion, constant monitoring of the patient and training to deal with such events are very important to ensure that the process of transfusion is as safe as possible.

Blood minded

Article Abstract:

Significant improvements have been made by the national blood services in the UK to ensure the safety of red blood cells and blood components. There are a number of ways in which nurses can prevent blood transfusion errors. These include ensuring that patients having transfusions have a name band bearing all their details.
