Trust betrayed

Article Abstract:

Research has revealed the greater vulnerability of disabled people to abuse. The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children surveyed 34 adults who had experienced abuse in childhood. Seventeen were able-bodied and 17 were mentally or physically disabled. Many disabled accepted abuse as no different from medical intervention. Report author, Helen Westcott suggests greater professional sensitivity and sex education are required for the handicapped.

High anxiety

Article Abstract:

An Institute of Manpower Studies survey has revealed low pay and pressures of work are lowering nurses' morale. About 66% of nurses were disatisfied with career prospects. Most felt they did not receive adequate renumeration for increased workloads. Nursing development director, Barbara Vaughan considers uncertainty about future development is contributing to anxiety. Nurses' involvement in planning could raise morale.

Article Abstract:

Childbirth statutary and voluntary organisations recognise the need for cooperative practice. Voluntary organisations provide a supporting role based on experience. Professional organisations welcome additional support but disagree over the closeness of the relationship. Some feel informal links achieve optimum benefits for families. However, others consider more formal arrangement beneficial.
