The team tackling dysphagia

Article Abstract:

A nurse's team is tackling the problem of dysphagia through a novel expansion of their role by an intensive dysphagia training course for speech and language therapists (SALTs), followed by a six-month period of supervision, and are equipping nurses to make dysphagia assessments autonomously. However, a full quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the nurses expanded role would take place soon, but anecdotal evidence shows that patients are being seen more quickly.

The British workers, when feel unwell, contact experienced nurses about their sickness who confidentially communicates with the line manager for convincing him to allow the sick employee to take a leave. This service helps staff recover and get back to work, and provides detailed sickness information to employers, building up a health profile of the company in order to identify the root causes of work induced sickness.
