The medicine of the lateral pass

Article Abstract:

The deterioration of the medical profession can be traced to a number of interrelated factors inherent in medical education. The laxity of medical school admission standards imposed by increasing number of students, the apparent disregard for the value of pre-clinical courses and shortened clinical education have eroded the quality of patient-centered medical training. The commercialization of medical practice and subsequent technological advancements also exacerbated the problem of diminishing concern for patient welfare. Such problems should be considered to produce physicians motivated by the principles of service and quality patient care.

The impact of philanthropy on medicine and health

Article Abstract:

Many philantrophic foundations and individuals have directly and indirectly influenced the development of medicine through their contributions in medical education and research. Johns Hopkins established the first medical school regarded as a bona fide graduate program requiring entering students to have an undergraduate degree. John D. Rockefeler put up an institute for medical research which produced studies and scientists that have largely influenced medicine. On the other hand, other philanthropists established rural hospitals and special clinics from which the government patterned its health programs and services.

The contribution of science to medicine

Article Abstract:

Science has contributed to the development of medicine througout the ages. The union of scientific methods and medicine has enabled medical practioners to help mankind in many ways. Knowledge derived from scientific studies has helped in the development of the medical practice. Laboratory testing and similarly conducted experiments has aided in increasing mankind's knowledge of medicine. Continued accumulation of knowledge will help in the continued development of medicine.
