The future of dentistry: an overview of a new report

Article Abstract:

The Future of Dentistry report presented to the American Dental Association House of Delegates in October, 2001 is reviewed. It contains 114 recommendations covering work force demographics, diversity, productivity, geographic distribution, allied dental personnel, oral health patterns, clinical practices, technological advances, financing, licensure, regulations, and the needs of special populations such as poor, disabled, elderly, and geographically isolated patients.

Digital dentistry in the computer age

Article Abstract:

Dentists should keep up to date on how computers can impact their practice. Many routine office activities can be automated, such as ordering supplies, sending appointment reminders and monitoring finances. Computers can be used to manage research data and identify the best treatments. Patient records can also be computerized. Computer-aided instruction will benefit dental students. Dentists still need to be careful not to adopt technology for its own sake.
