The effect of incentive-based formularies on prescription-drug utilization and spending
Article Abstract:
Patients covered by a health care plan that uses a drug formulary may stop taking some drugs that are necessary, according to a study of two health care plans that implemented a three-tier drug formulary. This type of formulary charges patients higher co-payments if they use a three-tier brand-name drug that is not preferred by the organization. Twenty-one percent of the patients who were taking a statin drug stopped taking it when the formulary was implemented.

Behavioral health insurance parity for federal employees
Article Abstract:
The Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) program offered mental health and substance abuse benefits on par with general medical benefits beginning in January 2001. This is done to improve insurance coverage of mental health and substance-abuse services, and these plans were encouraged to manage care.

Employers' use of value-based purchasing strategies
Article Abstract:
The various value-based purchasing strategies used by the employers are discussed. The article shows that the most of the employers do not focus on improving the health plan in their strategies, hence leading to deployment.
