Great expectations

Greater attention needs to be paid to the training of staff dealing with the discharge of day care surgery patients, if patients are to fully benefit from less time in hospitals. Patients need to be informed about the difficulties they may encounter during the post-operative stage, with nursing staff being trained to offer advice and reassurance about complications arising from anaesthetics and physical discomfort.
