Support role spreads the workload in intensive care
Article Abstract:
The introduction of a scheme to train critical care assistants (CCAs) at Havering Hospitals Trust, Romford, is described. The need to support intensive care nurses and the skills and knowledge required of CCAs are explained.

Issues are presented concerning the expanding role which is being made available to nurse practitioners within the National Health Service. The growth which has occurred in the responsibilities of nurses is discussed.
