A food diary helps a person find where the weak areas in a diet are located. Without such a monitor, mindless nibbling will keep adding on the weight. Studies have shown that there is a positive link between keeping a food diary and losing weight. How to keep a food diary is described.

Setting a target of a 10% reduction in weight is better than setting an ideal goal weight, according to F. Xavier Pi-Sunyer, a member of the Weight Watchers International Scientific advisory board. He states that obesity and overweight are now determined by body mass index.
