Severe acute respiratory syndrome and dentistry: A retrospective view
Article Abstract:
The emergence of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak from southern China and its spread worldwide is traced, and the viral etiology of the infection and its clinical features is discussed. The infection control guidelines issued during the outbreak by the health authorities in Hong Kong, the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization and the American Dental Association are reviewed.

Heart rate variability
Article Abstract:
The sensitivity of heart rate variability (HRV) in quantifying the cardiocirculatory reaction to dental stress compared with other clinical parameters more frequently used in clinical practice is evaluated. It is concluded that HRV is a highly sensitive parameter for quantifying the sympathetic drive to the heart during a cardiovascular reaction to a dental operation.
