Rewarding dementia nurses

Article Abstract:

The UK Alzheimer's Society has linked with the Queen's Nursing Institute to launch the Award for Excellence and Innovation in Dementia Care Nursing. This will initially be presented from 2002 to 2004. The candidates for the first award include Debbie Hawkins, Admiral nurse leader at Brent, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster Mental Health NHS Trust, and Tracy Packer, the UK's first dementia care nurse consultant.

Communication with patients who have dementia

Article Abstract:

Dementia was considered to be an organic brain disease and linked with ageing but it is now stated to be a collection of signs and symptoms requiring further investigation. Three therapeutic techniques to help practitioners increase and improve communication with people who have dementia are described, as communication may be the key to understand and resolve behavior disturbances.
