Relationship between bone mineralization and aluminum in the healthy infant

Article Abstract:

The development of bone mineralization is associated with serum aluminum levels in preterm infants, which underscores the dependence of preterm infants on environmental and nutritional factors. In full-term infants, a more efficient regulation of the development of bone mineralization is noted. Usisng multiple stepwise regression analysis, a significant relationship between bone mineral density or bone mineral content and postnatal age, as well as a negative correlation between serum aluminum and post-natal age, in premature infants.

Zinc supplementation, mental development and behaviour in low birth weight term infants in northeast Brazil

Article Abstract:

The hypothesis that zinc supplementation reduces the deficiencies in mental development and behavior of term infants of low birth weight was investigated. Babies from a low-income population in Pernambuco, Brazil, where the economy mainly relies on sugar-cane producion, participated in the project. Findings indicated that zinc supplementation for eight weeks may be helpful in reducing the behavioral defects. However, there was no apparent effect on mental and psychomotor deficiencies.

Zinc and iron status and growth in healthy infants

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the influence of iron and zinc on the growth of 66 children under the age of 3 in Caen, France. The correlation between iron and growth is greater than that of zinc and growth.
