Relation between chemokine receptor use, disease stage, and HIV-1 subtypes A and D: Results from a rural Ugandan cohort

Article Abstract:

The differences in coreceptor use in subjects infected with HIV-1 envelope subtypes A and D are examined order to analyze the differences in progression rates between these subtypes in rural Uganda cohort. The subtype differences in coreceptor are used to describe the faster progression rates in individuals infected with subtype D when compared with subtype A.

Case-control study of risk factors for incident HIV infection in rural Uganda

Article Abstract:

Risk factors for HIV infection in a study of 5,000 rural residents of Uganda were unmarried or divorced status, five or more lifetime sexual partners, and injection drug use. Women who were forced to have sex also had a higher risk.

Couples at risk: HIV-1 concordance at discordance among sexual partners receiving voluntary counseling and testing in Uganda

Article Abstract:

The study aims to determine correlated of HIV-1 concordance for couples receiving voluntary HIV counseling and testing. The results reveal that several behavioral and biologic factors are associated with HIV concordance for couples.
