Article Abstract:
Issues related to the effect the human genome project will have on identifying the genetic aspects to type II diabetes are examined. Topics include a definition of type II diabetes; past research on type II diabetes genes; and the manner in which the human genome project will facilitate type II diabetes research, such as narrowing the possibilities for identifying a diabetes-associated haplotype.

Article Abstract:
Researchers claim that during hyperthermia, breathing rate increases which induces cooling but also changes the pH of the brain due to excessive elimination of carbon dioxide which alters the concentration of the protons regulated by the bicarbonate buffer system. Study is presented which provides evidence that this change in pH causes febrile seizures and that this effect diminishes with age.

Article Abstract:
Recent research findings indicate that nervous system cells, particularly the Schwann cells, near insulin-producing cells in the pancreas undergo destruction in the early stage of type 1 diabetes development. Research shows that the first autoimmune response may be directed against Schwann cell and/or beta-cell antigens.
