A song for Mrs Smith

Article Abstract:

A first-year student nurse gained confidence from using music therapy with a patient suffering from Alzheimer's disease. The nurse was anxious as she had little experience and had difficulty in communicating with the patient. The patient was agitated and uncooperative with staff. The nurse tried singing to the patient to encourage response. The songs calmed the patient and also stimulated her to sing. The nurse gained satisfaction from establishing communication and allaying her own anxiety.

Dr Cox: the nurse's story

Article Abstract:

Nursing sister Roisin Hart has suffered harassment for reporting the mercy killing of Lillian Boyes by Nigel Cox. Hart considered the United Kingdom Cental Council (UKCC) code of conduct obliged her to take action. However, she regrets that the UKCC has not been more supportive in a difficult situation.
