Further defining the risks confronting twins
Article Abstract:
Certain factors appear to increase the risks of death, low birth weight, and premature delivery in twins. Researchers analyzed data on nearly 139,000 twin pairs born alive to black or white women. Twins born to women younger than age 23 or to black women were at greater risk of death in the first year of life, low birth weight, and birth before 35 gestation. Same sex twins, especially male pairs, were at greater risk than opposite sex twins. This is probably because identical twins are at greater risk, and all identical twins are same sex twins.

Cesarean delivery for twins: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Article Abstract:
There is no reason to deliver twins by cesarean section unless one of the twins is a breech baby, according to researchers who analyzed four studies covering 1,932 twin deliveries. Breech means the baby will come out feet first rather than head first as most babies normally do. Twins delivered by a cesarean spent more time in the hospital than twins delivered vaginally.
