Article Abstract:
A single case study has revealed the benefits of using moist wound healing techniques for malignant wound treatment. Nurses dressed the wound with calcium alginate dressings every 48 hours. The new regime improved patient comfort, controlled odour and restricted the patient's social life less. The moist dressings drew out exudate and prevented encrustation. The new regime saved district nurse time and was marginally cheaper.

The antibacterial characteristics of honey make it a suitable treatment for a wide range of infected wounds. It is best to use honey when it is soaked into an absorbent wound-contact material. Honey should be used to fill depressions, abscesses and cavities before the honey dressing pad is applied.
