Positive support

Article Abstract:

HIV-positive pregnant women require special care from a team of obstetrician, doctor and midwife with knowledge of HIV. No evidence suggests that pregnacy aggravates immune deficiency or that pregnancy is threatened by HIV. A midwife provided support through two pregnancies. Emotional support was necessary as the fetus' HIV status was unknown. During regular meetings the midwife gave advise on areas of concern such as breastfeeding. She emphasised the importance of adequate rest, a good diet and avoidance of infection. Ante-natal checks monitored fetal condition.

An alternative to surgery in treating ectopic pregnancy

Article Abstract:

Ectopic pregnancy occurs in one out of hundred patients and the fertilized egg implanted outside the uterus is removed surgically. However, in recent years women with ectopic pregnancy have been treated with methotrexate therapy which stops pregnancy from developing any further and it is then reabsorbed by the body, and though there are some side effects to this therapy it is still considered a good alternative to surgery.
