Article Abstract:
Plans by the Deputy Prime Minisiter, John Prescott, for a strategic revision of occupational safety and health, have been welcomed by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA). While the society acknowledges the professionalism of the Health and Safety Executive, improved risk assessment, and growing involvement of unions and employers; improved funding of the HSE and improved awareness of risks and hazards are among the system's weaknesses.

Issues are presented concerning the provisions of the government's Work Related Road Safety Task Group. The inclusion of the risks created and faced by employees on the road in the health and safety policy of business enterprises is discussed.
