Out on a limb

Article Abstract:

Old people are susceptible to eczema on the legs. This is due to the effects of ageing on the skin cells and blood vessels of the legs. Patients with leg ulcers may get allergic contact eczema or irritant contact eczema due to the effects of the ulcer exudate or products used to treat the ulcer. Patients with venous insufficiency may have varicose eczema along with leg ulceration. Asteatotic eczema is common and occurs due to dry conditions or use of a strong soap. Treatments for the different eczemas include use of emollients, mild steroids and soap substitutes.
