Putting the quality pieces together (components of excellent care) (Editorial)
Article Abstract:
The Practice Assessment/Quality Improvement program is a three-part system for minimizing malpractice. The program includes a self-questionnaire and a 129-page home study course which together can be used for Continuing Medical Education credit. The third section is an office visit from a risk-management expert who will evaluate the physician's practice, conduct staff interviews and make recommendations. The pilot program is beginning in such states as Georgia, Indiana and Maryland and may be expanded to all of the US by 1994.

Predictions on what physicians may find in the future
Article Abstract:
Several medical experts predict how the medical profession will evolve in the next few years. Some of those asked remarked on how growing economic restraints will influence and ration health care. Others commented on the growing diversity among the patient population, and one expressed hope that more racial minorities will become physicians. Several experts mentioned a shift from specialized medicine to an emphasis on primary care.
