Nutritional therapy in patients with liver cirrhosis

Article Abstract:

The assessment of nutritional status in patients with liver cirrhosis is limited by the effects of edema on triceps skinfold thickness (TSF) and mid-arm circumference. However, some studies have shown that body weight, creatinine/height index, TSF and mid-arm muscle area are valuable in the quantitative clinical evaluation of cirrhotic patients. Nutritional therapy was introduced to patients with cirrhosis and nutritional status was assessed using the aforementioned parameters. Results show that there was an improvement in the clinical outcome of the patients with nutritional therapy.

Study of the dietary fibre content in cocoa

Article Abstract:

Cocoa grains derived from the Theobroma cacao L. contain nearly 50% fat, 22.4% protein and 50% dietary fibre as found out by AOAC and a fractional method. Fat was removed from the seed samples before the analysis. The dietary fibre content in cocoa is high and insoluble in water. Results indicate that the dietary fibre content found out by the AOAC method is overestimated and thirty percent of the soluble fraction of the dietary fibre in the form of soluble uronic acids and neutral sugars
