Candidates for the American Medical Association's Board of Trustees include Herman Abromowitz, a family doctor from Ohio; Susan Hershberg Adelman, a Michigan pediatric surgeon; Yank Coble Jr., a Florida endocrinologist; Timothy Flaherty, a radiologist from Wisconsin; William Mahood, a Pennsylvania gastroenterologist; John Nelson, an obstetrician-gynecologist from Utah; William Plested, a cardiovascular surgeon from California; Roy Skoglund, an Oregon urologist; and Andrew Thomas, a resident from Ohio State University Hospital.

AMA election winners

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Association (AMA) elected Percy Wootton, an internist from Richmond, VA, as president during a June 1996 meeting. Wootton, a cardiology specialist, is married to a doctor and is a member of a group representing physicians' spouses. He still spends time with patients in between his duties for the AMA. Wootton and the top two leaders of the AMA's House of Delegates won election unopposed. Election results for other AMA bodies are presented.

Dr. Seward: AMA ready to meet the challenges facing it

Health care reform, managed care, the deterioration of health care resources and the conflict between patient expectations and political and economic realities are four challenges facing the American Medical Association (AMA), according to AMA executive VP P. John Seward. Seward restated AMA's committment to improving patient care and advocating for physicians' rights at his inaugural speech on Mar 11, 1996.
