Article Abstract:

The main function of the spinal cord is to transmit nerve impulses both ways between the brain and body. It also allows a number of reflex actions which protect against injury. The key reflexes are the deep tendon reflex, the stretch reflex, the plantar reflex, the abdominal reflex and the crossed extensor reflex.
