Margarine intake and risk of nonfatal acute myocardial infarction in Italian women

Article Abstract:

The relationship between margarine intake and nonfatal acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in Italian women was studied in women aged 18-74 in hospital with diagnosis of AMI. Findings revealed that medium or high intake of margarine was related with an increased risk of AMI. Analysis in separate strata of covariates showed that the association was independent of body mass index, history of hypertension and hyperlipidemia, and was greater in older women and in current smokers.
