Continuing neglect

Article Abstract:

The 1992 King's Fund Institute report maintains that National Health Service (NHS) provision of continuing care for the elderly is being eroded. The NHS is passing responsibility for long term care to families and social services. However, coordinated support by health and social services is hindered by role demarcation and little support exists for carers. The report recommends NHS nursing homes relieve pressure on acute beds but the Department of Health considers the report backward-looking.
