Levels of Diabetes-Related Preventive-Care Practices--United States, 1997-1999

Article Abstract:

Many diabetics are not receiving preventive care for the complications of diabetes. The national health objectives for 2010 include increasing the percentage of diabetics who have annual eye and foot examinations and glycosylated hemoglobin measurements to between 50% and 75%. Many states are approximately 30 percentage points from reaching that target.

Physical activity levels among children aged 9-13 years -- United States, 2002

Article Abstract:

About one-fourth of children between 9 and 13 years are not physically active outside of school, according to a survey of 3,120 children and their parents. Sixty-one percent do not participate in any organized activity outside of school. Black and Hispanic children were less likely to be physically active than white children.

Trends in Blood Lead Levels Among Children--Boston, Massachusetts, 1994-1999

Article Abstract:

The percentage of Boston children who had elevated blood lead levels decreased from 9% in 1994 to 5% in 1999, a 45% reduction. Poor children and Hispanic children had the highest blood lead levels.
