Intravenous therapy at home

Article Abstract:

Intravenous (IV) therapy by community nurses is a contentious subject. Analysts have been predicting an increase in the practice but it has not occurred due to lack of local policies, lack of experience and suitable training for community nurses, and lack of willingness by general practitioners to accept responsibility for the 24-hour treatment. However, hospital based IV therapy is not an appropriate solution for treatments including antibiotic and chemotherapy IV treatment, and community nurses are updating their skills to enable them to take on more responsibility in these areas.

Diabetes in Asian communities

Article Abstract:

The Asian population in the UK is at very high risk of diabetes, but there is no national policy for screening Asians for diabetes. There are some local services, but provision is very uneven. The British Diabetic Association is seeking to address this problem, and has issued videos and leaflets aimed at the Asian community. However, some experts believe that there is still a lack of information for both health professionals and patients.
