Inhibition of telomerase limits the growth of human cancer cells

Article Abstract:

Drugs that inhibit telomerase might kill tumor cells. Telomerase is an enzyme that maintains telomeres, which lead to the immortalization of the cell. Researchers created a mutant enzyme that caused the death of tumor cells in vitro. Telomerase has a structure similar to reverse transcriptases.

Article Abstract:

Inhibiting plasminogen activator and matrix metalloproteinases might prevent some of the complications of heart attack. Many molecular and cellular changes occur in heart tissue that can lead to cardiac rupture, arrhythmias, aneurysms, sudden cardiac death and heart failure.

Inhibition of plasminogen activators or matrix metalloproteinases prevents cardiac rupture but impairs therapeutic angiogenesis and causes cardiac failure

Article Abstract:

In a mouse model, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 prevented cardiac rupture after a heart attack, as did the matrix metalloproteinase-inhibitor TIMP-1. Cardiac rupture is a serious complication of heart attack, accounting for up to 31% of all in-hospital deaths.
