Infant feeding practices reflect antecedent risk of xerophthalmia in Nepali children

Article Abstract:

Higher intake of vitamin A-rich foods during infancy guarantees minimized risk of developing xerophthalmia or night blindness. The feeding practices of infants in a rural village in Nepal were monitored during the first few days and months to check for any correlation between nutrition and the chances of developing xerophthalmia. The study confirmed that children living in poor, rural areas similar to the one in Nepal are at greater risk of developing vitamin A deficiency and, eventually, xerophthalmia.

Determinants of infant growth in the slums of Dhaka: size and maturity at birth, breastfeeding and morbidity

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the influence which breastfeeding, birth weight and morbidity had on the growth of 1,654 newborn infants living in the slums of Dhaka, Bangladesh. The infants were studied for 12 months.
