How many drugs do we really need?

Article Abstract:

The World Health Organization created its list in 1977, and it is meant to provide a guide to the drugs needed to maintain an adequate level of health. The list currently contains about 270 drugs, and it is adapted to the particular needs of each country.

Action for equity

The World Health Organization created its program in 1981 to guide international efforts to address pharmaceutical needs throughout the world. The program also helps countries develop a national policy for managing pharmaceutical drugs.

WHO in action

Article Abstract:

WHO has collaborated with Chinese researchers to develop medicinal drugs derived from the Qinghao plant. WHO is also helping countries to develop quality control measures for drugs and ways to improve prescribing practices.
