Women who have several children can probably wait until they are 65 years old to begin hormone replacement therapy but childless women should start hormone replacement therapy at the beginning of menopause. In a study of 1,875 women, bone density was greater in women who had two or more children compared to childless women.

Some pregnant women with a fetus in the breech position may be able to deliver vaginally. In a breech birth, the baby comes out feet first rather than head first as it normally should. In a study of 191 women with a breech fetus, 71% were able to deliver vaginally and did not need a cesarean.

Doctors should encourage all women to use an oral contraceptive during their reproductive years and hormone replacement therapy after menopause. However, they should remember that each woman is unique, which requires selecting the correct formulations for each individual woman.
