Economists propose new strategy for public health management

Article Abstract:

The International Financial Institution Advisory Commission has recommended that the World Bank restructure itself to become the world's largest grant-giving foundation to provide money for public health research. Funding from developed countries would be spent to alleviate poverty and illness in developing countries.

This article discusses the funding of malaria research by developed nations. Issues discussed include innovations in health economic research, attempts to restructure international financial institution's to encourage funding of health related research, and the economic effect of malaria on sub-Saharan Africa.

Windows mogul opens doors for medical research

Article Abstract:

The William H. Gates Foundation has pumped millions of dollars into public health initiatives. Much of the money has been spent on vaccine development. Some of the money is given to non-profit organizations such as Seattle's Program for Appropriate Technology in Health, which then distributes the money to various research institutions.
