Women have a had positive effect on loosening strict corporate dress codes. During the seventies, women tended to dress in mannish attire, but as more women entered the work force, a more feminine style of dress has become acceptable. Ethnic fashions are also becoming popular.

Most employers prefer that employees dress conservatively in the work setting and at a job interview. Employees should make sure their nails are well groomed and avoid wearing spiked heels and girlish, bright or open-toed shoes. Wearing sneakers should also be avoided.
