The UK government is failing to encourage older people to train to become nurses, according to nursing unions. Many care assistants or auxiliaries would like to train to become a qualified nurses but financial penalties prevent them from trying. A bursary of up to 5,785 pounds sterling per year is given to people over the age of 26, which is totally inadequate, according to nursing officials. Older people may sometimes lack confidence although cope very well with study discipline.

The role of the nurse
Article Abstract:
Hip fractures are common and require special coordination of medical services since most patients are elderly. Delayed surgery is linked to increased likelihoods of related problems and death. Most fractures can be treated surgically and so the emergency department must diagnose the problem rapidly. Nursing assessments need to take into account the patient's age. Nurses should coordinate the rehabilitation program with the surgeons, therapists and social workers.
