Article Abstract:
Research shows that cigarette smoking is connected with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) but there appear to be other factors, such as diet, that influence COPD rates. A new study investigates the protective effects of dietary antioxidants against damage which could lead to COPD in an attempt to explain the population differences in COPD deaths. The study of 40-59-year-old men enrolled in the Seven Countries Study finds that fish and fruit intake may partly explain differences in COPD mortality.
