Debate escalates on source of sub-Saharan AfricaEs AIDS epidemic

Article Abstract:

Sub-Saharan Africa has two-thirds of the world's 40 million HIV/AIDS cases but experts are still debating whether the culprit behind the region's growing statistics could be unsafe injections or unprotected sex. On the other hand, it can be tricky to trace the transmission source of an HIV-infected patient as the infections of 14 HIV-positive children in the region were attributed to 'inexplicable causes'.

The vaccination rates have increased worldwide due to new partnerships between various organizations such as the Seattle-based, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization. The influx of money and a will to protect the world from various diseases has resulted in developing new strategies to carry out the immunization programs where it is most needed.

Animal activists take aim at Columbia university's primate program

Article Abstract:

People for ethical treatment of animals (PETA) has alleged that Columbia university's medical center has violated New York state laws with regard to treatment of their research primates. University officials have responded to the complaint and taken appropriate corrective action.
