Article Abstract:
Immunohistochemical analysis is used to determine the expression of the excision repair cross-complementation group 1 (ERCC1) protein in operative specimens of non-small-cell lung cancer through comparison of the effect of adjuvant cisplatin-based chemotherapy on survival. Patients with completely resected non-small-cell lung cancer and ERCC1-negative tumors appear to benefit from adjuvant cisplatin-based chemotherapy, whereas patients with ERCC1-positive tumors do not.

Article Abstract:
Protein Tyrosine Kinases (TKs) are enzymes that catalyze the transfer of phosphate from ATP to tyrosine residues in polypeptides. The mechanisms of aberrant TK signaling and strategies to inhibit TKs in cancer are reviewed, the status of TK-directed cancer therapies is summarized, and the challenges and prospects for the future are discussed.
